A Woman filled with God's Gifts and Treasures
More Than Meets the Eye, Lead with Understanding
Have you ever wished that others would take the time to truly get to know you before forming an opinion? I often felt labeled by someone who never did. I remember someone once saying, "You should read your Bible more," as if they knew everything about me - measuring my walk with God by how often I participated in class, posted verses online, or discussed scripture with others. What they did not know - what they never even thought to ask - is this: I sometimes struggle with grasping scripture, processing what I read, understanding the text fully, interpreting scripture, and connecting with what I have read. I am sure I am not alone, as others also struggle with the same thing. It's easy to pass judgment, but it becomes far more meaningful to pause, listen, and seek to understand someone's journey before defining them by what we assume.
The Bible Isn't a Quick Read
The Bible is not just information to be absorbed; it's poetic, historical, and deeply spiritual, all woven together. Reading it is not about speed; it is about sincerity. I am sincere. I show up with my heart open. I pray and ask God to help me understand. Perhaps what pleases Him the most is the faith that shows up and endures even when faced with challenges. The Bible can be challenging for many - its complex language, unclear metaphors, or deeper meanings can be hard to grasp. These struggles often go unnoticed. Sometimes you might read a whole page and not remember anything, not because you are not paying attention, but because you're engaging with something complex and alive. The weight of the Word is real, and understanding often doesn't come in flashes or clarity. At times, the truth does not jump out loudly, but comes slowly, like a whisper. You do not have to get it right away. Reading the Bible is not about instantly grasping everything, but about returning, reflecting, and letting meaning take root over time.
Whether it's difficulty with Scripture, personal battles, or emotional struggles, everyone faces challenges that are not always visible.
Before You Judge Me
Before labeling someone as "not spiritual enough" or "not doing enough," pause; ask yourself: do I know their story? Behind every face is a history. Behind every silence is a reason. Behind every struggle is someone still fighting. I wish the person who told me to read my Bible more had asked: "How can I support you in your walk with God?" Instead of assuming they had the right to evaluate my relationship with Him.
What I Know Now.
I have learned that being judged can leave invisible bruises. I have also learned that grace, both giving it and receiving it, can heal those wounds.
So, if you are like me, someone who has been misunderstood, labeled, or looked down on, or for not fitting someone else's version of "faithful" - know this: You are not alone. Your quiet efforts matter. God sees you for who you are, and He sees the real you!
Final Words
Let's be slower to judge and quicker to love. Let's ask questions before making assumptions. Let's remember that faith is not a competition, and we are all growing at our own pace. Jesus did not die for perfect people. He died for real people. People like you and me.
